After all the ranting and raving ( Ravin' Ravi .... that fits, na? ) here by me, I succeed in writing one fit enough to be printed / published in the venerable Hindu!! Gosh!! Not bad, eh?
Its an issue that really gets my goat. Everytime I see it!! It was also the topic of my very first post on this blog.
Don't you think its time we banned it?
:)
PS: Ignore the serious, bald guy in the pic, ok? There's a cheeky guy hiding behind him, I assure you!
PPS: Filched this blog title from here, without permission!! ;) Konjam adjust panungo, Kaatss??

Thanks, Ferrari! Didn't mean to frighten you, though! ;)
 | | | Ravi July 25, 2005 04:11 PM PDT
Kaps...virtual or real, spitting is not nice! Hope you agree. And as far as Singapore is concerned, its a role model for us Indians! Time and again! Hope you agree on this too! :)
 | | | Ravi July 25, 2005 04:09 PM PDT
Hi Balaji. Yes, I agree with you. Education, awareness, fines..whatever..somebody has to do it. This menace has to stop / be curtailed! ;)
 | | | expressions July 25, 2005 02:51 PM PDT
Thanks for bringing up this topic Ravi Sirrr ;) Here in India there is lack of discipline in public places!! What people lack is not just hygiene awareness but "civil virtues", a sense of responsibility for others! You become your opposite self when the domain is not your own home but a public space. The move of "No Spitting" needs awareness, civic sense as well as punishment.

Ravi,
Congrats on being featured in the Hindu. I will restrict myself to virtual spitting...hope this will not fall under your purview. How many fan mails have u got ? Looks like u have also started giving S'pore examples like our Anniyan.

Great. You drew attention to a major hazard -- health, environment...-- in Chennai. The authorities have to do something about it.

Hari,
A simple thank you from my side will not match the intensity of your heartfelt encouragement & wishes. But thanks anyway. There is so much that is wrong with our society and country today...we can only hope to change others & ourselves with awareness and knowledge..rest is upto God, I feel!
Cheers,
Ravi | |

Wish I could say it differently from others, but there's just the one way to say congrats... so, CONGRATS, Ravi! :) Nice pic, too - you look very imposing! Like you might pick up a spitter and throw him across the street - and I'd be right there, cheering, if you did :)

Congratulations,Ravi...
Very well written...
And your point will reach to so many people as it is published in a newspaper..And I wish at least a little percent of the people to reform!!

Congratulations Ravi.
 | | | Hari July 23, 2005 02:39 PM PDT
Hey, I am the first to come here. Ravi.... you owe me a BIII.....G treat for this. Or is it that I should give you one for your mammoth effort to make this country a more hygenic place to live. I do not mind it anyway.
 | | | Hari July 23, 2005 02:36 PM PDT
Hi Ravi,
A big CONGRATULATIONS to you first of all. What is more heartening is that media is sensitive and broadcasts the feelings of rare breed of country loving citizens like you. My salutations to you for this.
Along with spitting one more big and even more stinking issue to be addressed here in India is defacating especially by men in public places. I do not understand why can't they hold it on till they reach their home or the nearest public conveniences. By the way Chennai is grossly lacking in adequate number of public conveniences.
